Chemical-kinetic reaction models

Chemical-kinetic modelling is the key to understanding and simulating reactive combustion processes. Our aim is to develop, optimise and provide accurate and efficient models for CFD that are directly applicable for initial fuel evaluations and combustion system predictions.

Monitoring air quality with a focus on ultrafine particulate matter (UFP)

Due to the increased interest in healthy air quality in cities, emission sources in the urban environment are increasingly coming into focus. A key scientific issue here is source attribution, including the traceability and understanding of measurement results.

DLR Prescreening® of new fuel candidates

The introduction of alternative fuels for civil aviation is associated with major challenges for manufacturers, even though the demand for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) is now increasing - not least due to the new legal requirements for blending quotas in the EU and the USA. With prescreening, we offer an opportunity to test and characterise the properties even before approval and with small quantities.

Technical Fuel Assessment

The Technical Fuel Assessment is a comprehensive, customised analysis that - unlike the prescreening of new, sustainable fuels in aviation - is in principle suitable for any chemical energy source from the aerospace, shipping or ground-based transport sectors.

Creation of validation data records

The modelling of technical combustion processes, e.g. in stationary or aircraft gas turbine combustion chambers, is made possible by linking various sub-models within a "Computational Fluid Dynamics" simulation.
