Automatica 2016
Again this year, the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is presenting its work at Automatica.
The international trade fair for smart automation and robotics is being held June 21-24, 2016, for the seventh time in Munich. Take advantage of the opportunity during the fair days and find out for yourself about the innovations and further developments our research teams have accomplished in recent years.
This year at Automatica we are presenting the following exhibits in Hall B4, Booth 502:
RACE-LAB
RACE-LAB promises to simplify and intensify automation of the industrial use of robots. In the project, scientists are developing a program management system and a software library enabling a wide variety of robot capabilities such as drilling, screwing, putting down or picking up objects. In addition, RACE-LAB will facilitate complex interactive action processes between humans and machines.
Meteron / Rollin' Justin
METERON (Multi-Purpose End-To-End Robotic Operation Network) is a series of experiments for validating advanced technologies for the tele-manipulation of robots from space. A number of terrestrial robots, including Rollin’ Justin, will be controlled from inside the International Space Station (ISS) using haptic feedback or semi-autonomously. The aim of the experiment is to demonstrate how robots can be given commands to solve complex tasks in spite of considerable communication lags. This experiment will be simulated at Automatica by remote controlling Rollin’ Justin in the laboratory in Oberpfaffenhofen from the trade fair.
David
David is an anthropomorphic robot possessing drives equipped with passive-variable spring stiffness. It aims to be similar to its human model with regard to size, weight and performance. The focus of development was on system robustness, high dynamics and dexterity. David’s capabilities are illustrated in a demonstration in which the robot independently drills holes in a concrete slab with a drill.
Medical Robotics
At this year’s Automatica booth, the latest developments from the institute in the field of Medical Robotics intended to assist surgeons in the application of complex procedures will be presented.
Electric wheelchair
Assistive robotics is another important focus of our research. Therefore, the Institute of Robotics is presenting an electric wheelchair at Automatica with an integrated robot arm that enables it to support persons with physical disabilities in their everyday lives.
The Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics will also be presenting the following exhibits and projects at its booth:
- Flying Robots
- Lightweight Rover Unit (LRU)
- Multicopter
- Kontur-2
- ROBEX Simulator
- Systems and Control Simulation Lab
- SME Robotics
The following spin-offs of the institute are also represented at this year’s trade fair booth:
