In the 5G Living Lab, DLR and the Smart Rail Connectivity Campus (SRCC) moved a remote-controlled train through the Ore Mountains. The train driver was in a control centre in Braunschweig and the Thales rail vehicle was 340 kilometres away in Schlettau in the Ore Mountains. Vodafone's 5G mobile network was used for remote access to the train. The aim of such tests is to try out new ways of intervening in rail traffic from a control centre and thus develop a fallback level for unmanned and automated rail operations.
