Departments

Research work at the Institute of Transportation Systems is divided into the following departments.

Research Design and Assessment of Mobility Solutions

In this department scientists develop solutions for cities and regions to transform the mobility system by developing user-friendly designs and simulation and evaluation tools, as well as researching operational optimization and creating acceptance.

Research Infrastructure Management

The department ensures the reliable operation of the institute’s complete research infrastructure. In addition, the further development of the research infrastructure is coordinated and implemented in accordance with our large-scale facilities roadmap.

Research Information Flow Modeling in Mobility Systems

The department conducts research on the informational foundations for the design of future mobility, with a view to all stakeholders – people, technical systems and services. Here, scientists develop methods for determining information needs, modeling information flows, and designing innovative solutions for digital, automated, and connected mobility systems based on this information.

Information Acquisition and Model Design

The department designs, develops and evaluates architectural principles and platform structures as well as interfaces and basic services. Theses are used for the management and processing of spatial-temporal data for the identification and prediction of traffic situations and technical system states.

Research Cooperative Systems

The department is pioneering new autonomous mobility solutions by researching, designing, and demonstrating connection, automation, cooperation, and coordination for vehicles, system networks, and us humans.

Research Verification and Validation

The department's task is simulation-based verification, validation, and approval of vehicles and infrastructure in the transportation system.
