                      Research topics

                      Our research at the Institute of Transportation Systems is dedicated to the three areas of road, rail and transport system. All areas are closely interlinked and are dealt with by several departments.

                      Road

                      We are researching how to make transport more climate-friendly, safer and more liveable. To this end, we are driving forward its digitalisation and automation and developing new technologies to provide all road users with the best possible support for their mobility needs.

                      Rail

                      Rail transport is of particular importance due to climate change and the high utilisation of roads and urban areas. We are therefore developing new technologies to make rail transport safe, efficient and competitive and are driving forward the European harmonisation of rail networks.

                      Transport System

                      We consider the technical and operational aspects of the transport system in their entirety and research their interactions – also with the people who use and operate the system. We support the planning and operation of intermodal systems by developing innovative concepts and approaches for needs- and target group-orientated technological solutions.
