On the road to help
On 25 June 2024, the AHEAD project team demonstrated two use cases with the semi-autonomous remote-controlled SHERP vehicle: a humanitarian aid delivery for people in hard-to-reach regions of the world and a rescue mission in a flood situation. The vehicle reaches places that are too impassable for conventional means of transport and too dangerous for people. The project is being led by the DLR Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics. The test missions were carried out in close cooperation with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) at the Bundeswehr site in Nordheim am Main.
As can be seen in the picture, researchers were on board the vehicle during the exercise to observe and monitor its remote control.
