Together with Braunschweig, Halle is one of the first VITAL test sites to emerge from the original VITAL project. Within the project, both VITAL procedures for single junction control were implemented at the Dölauer Straße / Brandbergweg junction. The junction is located on the north-western edge of the city. Vehicle detection was realised using magnetic field sensors.

The test runs in real traffic and the subsequent analysis and validation yielded very positive results. The time lost by road users was reduced compared to the original control system. Due to its success, the loss-time-based method was even operated at the junction by the city of Halle for the duration of the project.

In the follow-up project VITAL.NET, the procedures are currently being further developed for route coordination via several traffic light junctions. For testing in real traffic, the Halle test area is being extended to include Hubertusplatz south of the Dölauer Straße / Brandbergweg junction. The implementation of the VITAL coordination procedures is planned for 2020. Hubertusplatz will be equipped with radar detectors and induction loops for vehicle detection. In addition, special detectors will be used to take automated pedestrian requirements into account in the VITAL control systems for the first time.
