Institute of Flight Guidance (Project leader)
The Institute of Flight Guidance is working on the development and application of future processes and technologies for the integrated airborne and ground-based guidance of aircraft.
The HorizonUAM project aims to provide initial answers to the vision of urban air transport. The focus is on aspects such as vehicles, infrastructure, operation and acceptance.
As part of the project, a survey on the topic of UAM (Urban Air Mobility) was conducted in Europe in order to record the industry's expectations of future utilisation scenarios and compare them with those from research.
The first results and future paths were presented on 22 and 23 September 2021 at the first HorizonUAM Symposium, organised by DLR. In the further course of the project, flight demonstrations were and will be carried out at the Magdeburg-Cochstedt Test Center. The first tests took place at the end of 2021.
DLR's second Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Symposium took place on 1 and 2 December 2022, focusing on current research into UAM aircraft, the corresponding infrastructure, UAM services and public acceptance of future urban air transport.
On 4 and 5 July 2023, the 3rd Urban Air Mobility Symposium took place in Cochstedt, which concluded the HorizonUAM project. The project partners presented the research results on UAM and in particular the topics of aircraft, infrastructure, operation and public acceptance in lectures, panel discussions, poster sessions and flight demonstrations.
