Department Flight Dynamics and Simulation

The Department Flight Dynamics and Simulation explores the dynamic characteristics of aircraft and their interaction with the cockpit crew. The aim is to achieve a safe, economically efficient aircraft, being robust against extreme environmental conditions like wind, wake vortexes or icing, minimizing human operating errors, staying flyable at system failures and affecting the environment as little as possible.

Department Rotorcraft

The Helicopter Department performs research on various aspects of rotor and flight systems for rotary wing aircraft. Objectives are to support the development of new technologies and their evaluation to improve the handling qualities, safety, economic efficiency, environmental performance and mission effectiveness of rotorcraft. The activities span from system analysis, modeling and simulation of configurations and system components to wind tunnel and flight tests.

Department Unmanned Aircraft

The aim of research and development work at the Institute of Flight Systems Engineering is the simple and safe operation of unmanned aerial vehicles under complex boundary conditions.

Department Safety Critical Systems & Systems Engineering

The department Safety Critical Systems & Systems Engineering focuses on design processes and methods, concepts and technologies for a safe control of aircraft. By providing appropriate design and evaluation methods, flight control architectures and technologies including control and monitoring concepts, safe, functional, and, in terms of the overall aircraft, optimal control concepts and systems are provided.

Department Military Aircraft

The Military Aircraft Department is located on the premises of the Defence Technology Centre 61 in Manching near Ingolstadt. The department deals with qualification, certification and flight testing issues for manned and unmanned military aircraft as part of projects for the Bundeswehr.
