Model city
Modular urban test environment
The model city offers a modular test environment on a reduced scale. It enables researchers to carry out critical experiments in a safe environment. The concept was developed as part of the DLR HorizonUAM project and is based on an extensive analysis that identified various areas of major European cities, such as districts with different building densities and heights.
Common test scenarios include, for example, system tests of sensors that help unmanned aerial systems with orientation. Flight guidance concepts can also be tested. Acoustic measurements of noise development can be used to gain insights into the acceptance of UAS by the public.
An extensive modular model city is to be realized at the National Test Center in the future. As can be seen above, sea containers are currently available for testing in a reduced configuration.
