The project focuses on the detection of localized methane sources with EnMAP. Its goal is a comprehensive analysis of existing methane retrieval techniques and the development of a pre-operational retrieval combining currently employed target detection algorithms with physics-based methane retrieval methods. The OpAiRS Team supports the project with recent HySpex observations of methane sources in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin in southern Poland, which serve as reference datasets and basis for synthetic EnMAP products. The project continues recent EOC research on the detectability of localized methane sources with HySpex, which were conducted during the COMET field campaign in 2018. Additionally, RemoTeC-EnMAP supports the preparation of DLR’s space mission CO2Image regarding synergies with hyperspectral missions such as EnMAP or CHIME (ESA).
