DLR site Bremen

The research activities conducted at DLR's site in Bremen focus on space, aeronautics and maritime security. The Bremen site supports the region's potential for innovation. DLR Bremen's first institute was founded in 2007. Since then, DLR has been continuously expanding its research topics at this site and has also been represented by the Virtual Product House in the ECOMAT innovation centre since 2019.

The Bremen site's scientific activities are integrated into the wider DLR network, and also form part of national and international research partnerships. Thanks to its location at the Bremen Technology Park in the north of the city and its site at Bremen Airport City in the south, DLR is able to work in close cooperation with both science and industry. DLR also makes its research infrastructure available for collaborative use by project partners, in an effort to support the transfer of scientific and technical expertise. DLR Technology Marketing promotes close networking with partners from business and industry associations, with a view to creating new products and forward-looking workplaces together.

The Bremen DLR_School_Lab gives children and young people the chance to discover the fascinating world of research and technology in a hands-on way. Here, pupils can conduct experiments that directly relate to current projects in aeronautics, space, transport and energy. DLR supervises Bachelor's and Master's theses and also supports scientists with doctorates. At the Bremen site, DLR also offers training opportunities to become an electronics technician for equipment and systems.

Institutes and facilities

Earth Observation Center EOC

EOC comprises the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) and the Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF), at work in Oberpfaffenhofen, Neustrelitz, Berlin-Adlershof and the Maritime Safety Research Department in Bremen

Institute for Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing

The Institute for Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing with its main office in Hanover primarily focuses on research questions relating to the use of quantum technologies and quantum sensors, and develops quantum measurement techniques for innovative applications up to the realisation of prototype solutions.

Institute of Quantum Technologies

The aim of the Institute of Quantum Technologies in Ulm is to develop precision instruments for space applications based on quantum technologies and, in close cooperation with industry, to bring them to prototype maturity. It thus provides a bridge between fundamental research and industry.

DLR_Schoo_Lab Bremen

Bremen is one of the DLR sites that revolves around space. At the DLR_School_Lab, pupils themselves embark on a journey of discovery into space – from launching a water rocket, to landing on Mars and through to analysing soil samples. Covering everything from automatic rovers to the examination of real meteorites and a tour of the ISS with VR glasses, a trip to this school laboratory is sure to provide a wealth of knowledge and spark a fascination with space.
