Quality Management

A long-standing commitment to providing high quality products and services was formalized when a quality management system (QMS) was established following EN ISO 9001 specifications. This QMS has been certified since 2007, followed by periodic re-inspections and recertifications. With regard to satellite missions, ECSS standards (European Cooperation for Space Standardization) are applied in addition. In this QMS, project management processes as well as production and operational processes receive special attention.

Appointment as a member of the International Ozone Commission

Dr.-Ing. Diego Loyola (MF) was elected to serve for the next 4 years on the International Ozone Commission (IO3C), one of the special commissions of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics.

Two new DLR Senior Scientists at EOC

On June 20, 2024, it was two Earth Observation Center employees, Dr. Monika Gähler and Dr. Tobias Storch, who were formally honoured by the DLR executive board with the title "DLR Senior Scientist" in the context of the Science BBQ in Braunschweig.

Helmut Rott Prize

The EOC scientist Dr. Celia Amélie Baumhoer was presented with the 2022 Helmut Rott Prize on May 16, 2023. This prize is awarded every two years for outstanding dissertations closely associated with remote sensing of the cryosphere.

DLR Science Award 2022

EOC scientist Dr Celia Baumhoer was awarded the 1922 DLR Science Prize for her outstanding scientific achievements. This prize is awarded annually to a maximum of two scientists.

IEEE GRSS David Landgrebe Award

Prof. Mihai Datcu of DLR’s Remote Sensing Technology Institute was awarded the prestigious IEEE GRSS David Landgrebe Award at this year’s International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) in Kuala Lumpur. It was in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the study of earth observation data using innovative concepts to analyse big data, image mining, machine learning, smart sensors and quantum resources.

The DLR Wildlife Rescuer: High-tech for animal welfare

In Germany, more than 100,000 fawns are injured or killed by agricultural machinery every year. The young animals duck in danger instead of fleeing and thus become victims. The "Flying Wildlife Rescuer" application system from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) prevents accidents and tracks down the animals hidden in the grass during mowing. By rescuing wild animals, the system also prevents the mowed material from being poisoned by animal carcasses. The DLR Remote Sensing Technology Institute was honored as one of 365 "Selected Landmarks 2012" in the "Land of Ideas" for the innovative idea of the "Flying Wildlife Rescuer".
