The German "Group on Earth Observations" at EOC
On 26 and 27 June, representatives of federal ministries, specialist authorities and research institutions met at the EOC to further develop the use of earth observation and in situ systems and their data and to promote an open data policy.
The D-GEO working group was set up by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) and is the German part of the international GEO (Group on Earth Observations) initiative, in which 111 member states, the European Commission and 129 organisations are currently participating. In Germany, the BMDV has commissioned the German Space Agency of the DLR with the national GEO Secretariat.
In addition to the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV)and the EOC, the following organisations were also represented the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the German Meteorological Service (DWD), the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG), the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and the Centre for Remote Sensing of Land Surfaces (ZFL) at the University of Bonn.
