Dr. Diego Loyola, a scientist at the Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF), has been appointed “DLR Senior Scientist” by Mr. Klaus Hamacher and Prof. Johann-Dietrich Wörner of the executive board. This distinction was conferred on only three DLR scientists in 2015. The formal appointment was made on 22 June 2015 as part of the executive board’s annual Dialogue programme in Köln.

Diego Loyola was honoured for his scientific achievements in the field of remote sensing of Earth’s atmosphere. He was in charge of several international projects which involved the scientific and technical conception and development of retrieval algorithms and software processors for remote sensing of the atmosphere. These software systems are employed in the operational ground segments of ESA and EUMETSAT satellites and will be used in the coming years in Europe’s Copernicus programme for the “Sentinel 5 Precursor” and “Sentinel 4” satellites.
Each year, DLR honours with the title of “Senior Scientist” scientists who have distinguished themselves in the field of basic research or project-related applied research.
