Gasometer Oberhausen has a winner showing DLR’s satellite images of Earth

Visitor to the "Eye in the Sky" exhibition

With "The Eye in the Sky" exhibition, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Gasometer Oberhausen GmbH are presenting 58 large format satellite images of Earth and other Earth Observation results. This has been taking place in Gasometer Oberhausen's impressive Hall.

"The Eye in the Sky" is one of the most successful Gasometer exhibitions ever. In less than one year 250 000 visitors have seen these fascinating images in what is surely one of the most unusual exhibition halls in Europe. "We have been overwhelmed by the success of this exhibition," reports Jeanette Schmitz, director of Gasometer Oberhausen GmbH. "Obviously there is a deep desire to see with one's own eyes the beauty and also the fragility of our home planet."

The long Easter weekend this year was especially successful. Almost 5000 visitors came to the Gasometer between Good Friday and Easter Monday to enjoy unrivaled views of Earth - of huge deserts and mighty mountains, of cities and holy places.

DLR board member Thomas Reiter talks about his ISS daily routine

The "Eye in the Sky" exhibition in the Gasometer Oberhausen.

"The Eye in the Sky" is open until 2 November 2008. Additional highlights at Gasometer Oberhausen come from a themed series of public events.

It will be launched on 25 April 2008 by the DLR board member responsible for space activities - former astronaut Thomas Reiter. His talk gives an exciting picture of the daily routine on board the International Space Station (ISS), its construction and extensions, and the scientific aspects of a space mission. Thomas Reiter will also answer questions about the value of human space flight.

The lecture begins at 15:00 and is included in the entrance fee for the exhibition.
