The 5th UAV Flight Test Convention is taking place in Cochstedt from 16th to 17th October

Are you an UAV flight tester or enthusiast and interested in the latest advancements and discussions on flight testing of unmanned aircraft systems? Join us in Cochstedt or online for the 5th UAV Flight Test Convention, from 16th to 17th October 2024.

The UAS Flight Test Convention is an event by flight testers for flight testers and was held for the first time in 2019. Annually hosted by different organizations (e.g. ZAL and HAW in Hamburg, TU Delft), the number of participants has continued to grow annually through "word of mouth", most recently amounting to ca 40 online participants in 2023. Now after the pandemic and with the possibility to join in person again, our event aims to bring together professionals and enthusiasts in the field of UAV Flight Testing. We offer a space for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and exploring advancements in the field.

The 2024 edition of the UAV FTC is  a hybrid event organized by the DLR Innovation Center for Small Aircraft Technology and hosted by the DLR National Experimental Test Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Cochstedt, from 16th to 17th October 2024.

As a real laboratory environment integrated in an operating airport, one of the main highlights of the convention this year will be a joint flying event, where pilots have the opportunity to fly their UAVs and participants can showcase their developments.

Our program will thus include sessions for presentations and discussion as well as flight demonstrations. It’s a great opportunity for experts, researchers, and industry professionals to connect and share their experiences. Please remember to register in due time. Write directly to uav-convention@dlr.de by 9th September 2024.

As a member of the audience, please include your name and affiliation, and rather you’d like to take part on-side or online. If you want, you can also tell us about topics that you’d like to see discussed.
As a presenter, please include a one-page abstract with the topic and summary of your presentation or discussion session, as well as the presenters’ names and affiliations and rather you’d like to take part on-side or online.
Topics may include innovative research, practical applications and challenges, case studies or advancements in UAV flight testing methods and technologies.
For all participants joining us in person, we will contact you to collect your full name and date of birth, so your entrance into the airport is authorized.

If you’d like to fly your UAV during the event, please include details about your flight: e.g. open or specific category, names and affiliation of responsible for the operation, UAV details, flight mission, requirements, any already obtained permits.
Hangar storage and charging facilities will be available for your UAV during the convention and you can arrive a day earlier to prepare and test your UAV at the airfield.

In preparation for the presentations and discussions, a book of abstracts and a technical program will be distributed by 7th October 2024.
We are working on an exciting program for you and looking forward to meeting you either in Cochstedt or virtually during the event.

Don't hesitate to forward the invitation to anybody who is interested in these topics.

Important notes:

  • The FTC is not a high-profile event or a "classic" scientific conference, but a format with a focus on sharing experiences within the flight test ecosystem. The event is therefore kept as informal as possible and both guests and speakers are professionals from research and industry in an international environment.
  • For those of you who participated in the last events, we are interested in keeping the organization pragmatic, lean, focused on substantial exchange, and, of course, fun. We do not charge any participation fees.
  • Address and arrival information for the DLR in Cochstedt can be found here.
