IDeE.Lab - Laboratory for interaction design and ergonomics
The IDeE.Lab is a creative space for iterative design processes of human-machine interaction, emphasising user-centred design and testing of prototypes. Equipped with modern tools and furniture, it supports the agile design thinking process and offers technology for prototyping and user studies in VR/AR environments.
The IDeE.Lab (Interaction Design and Ergonomics Laboratory) is a creative space in which iterative design processes for human-machine interaction take place with the early involvement of users. It is also a laboratory with a focus on user-centred design, development and testing of various prototypical interactive and cooperative human-machine interfaces, for example for interaction between automated vehicles and road users. New prototypes can be built, analysed, evaluated and demonstrated quickly, flexibly and cost-effectively in the IDeE.Lab. To this end, the IDeE.Lab offers a broad methodological spectrum of interaction design in the iterative design process. The creative space is equipped with several projectors, whiteboards and a digital smartboard. Furthermore, creative furniture - such as modular seating and rollable, height-adjustable, foldable tables, which can also be used as a whiteboard, or mobile partition walls - optimally support users in the agile design thinking process.
Building on the support provided in the idea generation phase, the IDeE.Lab offers a seat box (mockup) with active steering wheels and active pedals for controlling a virtual vehicle and simulated traffic environment for prototyping. Additional interfaces can be flexibly mounted and dismounted on the seat box as required - also with the help of simulation techniques - for the realisation of design sessions. Once the requirements for the human-machine interface have been determined, the step-by-step construction of prototypes begins, which can then be analysed in the laboratory with the help of usability and user experience (UX) studies. In addition, the IDeE.Lab offers the technical equipment for conducting user studies in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
