AMBER
Hybrid-electric flight is a possible future type of propulsion, which offers good prospects for the future, especially with SAF or hydrogen. The aim is to combine the advantages of both electric motors and gas turbines.
In the AMBER project, a thermal engine (gas turbine) is coupled with an electric motor for hybrid-electric propulsion systems for regional aircraft, thereby achieving hybridisation. DLR-SR considers the powertrain and simulates it in a multi-modal way with electrics, mechanics, propeller and cooling. In particular, the ram air duct is also considered in order to estimate the influence of the duct.
