Departments

The Institute of System Dynamics and Control consists of the following departments:

Space System Dynamics

As part of the RMC cross-cutting topics of planetary exploration and on-orbit servicing, significant contributions are made to the simulation, design optimisation, verification and control of space systems and individual subsystems. Research focuses on the wheel-ground interaction of planetary rovers, the mobility of landers on asteroids, the contact dynamics of satellite docking manoeuvres and the evaluation of launch systems, including reusable launch systems.

Aeronautics

The design of innovative flight control and aircraft on-board systems is the focus of aviation research at the SR Institute. The aim is to reduce weight by actively reducing aircraft structural loads and improving the (semi-)autonomous operation of manned and unmanned aircraft. Aircraft energy systems are also being further developed, evaluated and optimised to reduce fuel consumption.

Transport Research

Safety, comfort, and responsible use of natural resources are in the focus of the work regarding road and rail- way vehicles. In both, the research topics of energy management, vehicle dynamics and vehicle intelligence are addressed.
