About Us

The Institute of System Dynamics and Control works on the further development and application of advanced control methods in order to improve the performance, energy efficiency, safety and comfort of complex control systems. The overarching goals of the institute are innovative solutions for space robots and systems, fixed-wing aircraft, road and rail vehicles as well as technology transfer.

Mechatronic systems are becoming ever more powerful thanks to continuous research into intelligent control functions. At the Institute of System Dynamics and Control, we are working to further develop advances in the areas of microprocessors, sensor technology and software with regard to performance, safety, energy efficiency and sustainability.

Departments

As part of the RMC cross-cutting topics of planetary exploration and on-orbit servicing, significant contributions are made to the simulation, design optimisation, verification and control of space systems and individual subsystems. Research focuses on the wheel-ground interaction of planetary rovers, the mobility of landers on asteroids, the contact dynamics of satellite docking manoeuvres and the evaluation of launch systems, including reusable launch systems.

Locations and arrival

Alongside the Cologne-Porz site, the DLR site in Oberpfaffenhofen is one of the largest research centres in Germany. Eight scientific institutes are located on the site not far from the Munich-Lindau A96 motorway.
