Can you work from home in a cave? Our DLR Scout Rover team agrees: it works! In a 1.5km long cave near Lake Walchen, Dr. Roy Lichtenheldt, Johannes F. Koch, Franke Dennis and Anja Gretschmann from the DLR-Institute of System Dynamics and Control tested the effects of darkness, high humidity, ground conditions, and temperature on the system sensors for the Scout Rover. The aim was to map the cave and examine how the sensitive technology of the Scout Rover works under challenging conditions to explore caves on Earth, the Moon or Mars.
