Obituary for Prof. Dr. Uwe-Carsten Fiebig
Uwe-Carsten Fiebig has worked as a research associate at DLR since 1988. From the beginning of 1998, he headed the Communications Systems department at the Institute of Communications and Navigation. Since 2006, he has also taught as an honorary professor at the University of Ulm.
He successfully focused his department on core competencies in transmission methods, channel modelling and estimation methods, which are used in a wide range of applications in new, robust and cyber-secure communication methods for aviation, ground-based transport and shipping, navigation methods in difficult environments and swarm systems for exploration in terrestrial environments and in space.
Uwe-Carsten Fiebig attached particular importance to high-quality results and scientific excellence. He encouraged creative ideas and was always open to new topics.
He paid particular attention to the training and promotion of young scientists and the support of doctoral students, post-docs and managers in their professional and personal development. A large number of prizes and awards that he and his colleagues were able to win are an expression of his successful work.
In Uwe-Carsten Fiebig, we have lost a valued colleague, a formative leader and a cheerful person who has sadly left us far too soon.
Uwe, we will miss you!
