The Integrated Satellite Systems group is dedicated to the design and development of satellite-based communication systems concepts and their integration with other systems following an application-oriented approach.
Our steps to innovation are:
Define the role of satellite-based communications systems in the context of specific applications that are relevant and provide added value to society by working closely with the respective end users;
Design communications system concepts, implement and integrate prototypes at high technology readiness level and demonstrate functionality, capability and performance in the context of specific applications;
Liaise with SMEs and Industry to achieve a successful technology transfer to translate ideas and inventions into innovative products and services.
Prominent areas of application that our group currently works on are: public protection and disaster relief, messaging services over satellite, provision of high throughput data services in underserved areas, and advanced backhauling concepts for 5G networks.
Pharos - Flugpfad des Hubschraubers
Die gelben Linien zeigen den Flugpfad des Hubschraubers während des Brandes an. Das Zielgebiet wurde aus verschiedenen Richtungen mehrfach überflogen, um optimale Ergebnisse zu erhalten.
PHAROS-Kontrollraum während der Pilotdemonstration
Bei der Pilotdemonstration in Spanien konnten die DLR-Wissenschaftler zusammen mit den lokalen Einsatzkräften PHAROS testen. Im vor Ort eingerichteten Kontrollraum empfingen die Wissenschaftler die Messergebnisse und konnten diese gleich in das Programm einfließen lassen.
Eine Kommunikations-Kette, die im Katastrophenfall reibungslos funktioniert und die mit möglichst wenigen Missverständnissen aufgebaut wird, um die Bevölkerung schnell zu informieren – das ist das Ziel von Cristina Párraga Niebla (vorne im Bild) mit ihrem EU-Projekt„Alert4All“.
