ARENA2036 - Lightweight construction based on functional integration

The LeiFu project (fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) lightweight construction through functional integration) addresses the development of lightweight structural modules for future automobiles by integrating additional functions into an FRP floor structure, taking into account near-series, automated production.

ARENA2036 - Lightweight construction based on functional integration

In this joint project, application-orientated basic research is being carried out into the integration of individual mechanical, thermal, electrical and sensory functions.

Thanks to their specific structure and manufacturing process, FRPs offer excellent opportunities for integrating a wide range of additional functions into structural components and thus tapping into secondary weight reduction potential. However, the greatest challenge for the functionalisation of FRP structural components is the integration of these functions into the FRP components and the development of suitable and automated manufacturing processes.
