Investigating processes triggering change at the Antarctic Peninsula
The polar regions – particularly the Antarctic – undeniably play a prominent role in the global climate system. With their large, white, ice- and snow-covered surfaces they decisively influence Earth’s radiation balance and thus its energy balance. At the same time they noticeably react in a very particular way to changes in the global climate.
Since January 2015 a group of young scientists at DFD has addressed this timely topic of glaciological and atmospheric changes at the Antarctic Peninsula. The group is financed by the Young Scientist/Junior Professor Program of the DLR Executive Board’s Space Research and Technology division. Its responsibilities include teaching at Augsburg University. This research project is being initially financed for three years.
