Creating more livable places through mobility applications that serve the needs of society – that is the intention of the project. Modules for transforming the transport system will be designed and brought into practice in model regions throughout Germany. This is being accompanied by municipal administrations, transport agencies and private companies.
Doesn’t sound like a classical remote sensing research project? Enhanced neural networks are used to segment traffic areas on aerial images by mode of transport, so that re-allocation potentials can be identified and their effects considered in travel demand models and traffic noise simulations. Therefore, earth observation provides a data basis for socio-political discussions about public space distribution in urban areas and for supporting municipal decision-making processes.
