Aims - Time Series for Global Change Research

The main objective of TIMELINE is to develop long AVHRR time series of geo-scientific variables for Global Change research which are consistent, reproducible, transparent, reliable, and generic. TIMELINE will:

  • derive a 40-year time series with AVHRR land and atmosphere products
  • enable change detection analyses and the identification of geo-scientific phenomena and trends
  • Answer climate-relevant research questions

The AVHRR mission is the only mission that provides daily global coverage of optical satellite data since the early 1980s. Such, we are empowered to analyse processes in our environment that are triggered by a changing climate  as for example gradually delayed snow fall,  a shift in the beginning of spring or by social-economic changes as for example the increase of productivity due to agricultural intensification.
TIMELINE further enhances DFD’s technical capability to operationally produce long-term, harmonized time series.
