PEGASOS
The ESA-funded Project „Product Evaluation of GEMS L2 via Assessment with S5P and Other Sensors“ (PEGASOS) is dedicated to validate Level-2 data from the Korean Geostationary Environment Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) with comparable operational satellite and ground-based measurements of air quality.
DLR is leading this project as prime together with our colleagues from the University of Thessaloniki (AUTH, Greece), the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA, Belgium) and the University of Bremen (IUP, Germany). The assessment will be based on comparisons with spaceborne instruments like Sentinel-5P, OMI, GOME-2, IASI, VIIRS and CALIPSO as well as ground-based stations and networks like Brewer, Dobson, PGN, NDACC, MAX-DOAS, ozonesondes and SAVS.
It is intended by ESA that this project gets extended by another two years (until 09-2026). During the extension phase, also data from NASA’s geostationary TEMPO (Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution) instrument will be evaluated by the PEGASOS consortium.
