Geoland2

Geoland2

Geoland2 prepares for the operational capabilities of the GMES Land Service, through the development of Core Mapping Services (CMS) and Core Information Services (CIS).

The Core Mapping Services produce basic geo-information on land cover and land use and its annual and seasonal changes. They also include a variety of additional biophysical parameters describing the continental vegetation state, the radiation budget at the surface and the water cycle. These Core Mapping Services form the basis for more elaborated geo-information services, the Core Information Services (CIS), which address a wide variety of thematic fields of application, like water quality, forest management, spatial planning, agri-environmental management, carbon cycle or food security.

Geoland2 is undertaken by a consortium led by InfoTerra Germany and composed of 50 partners.

The cluster comprises to geoland2 the following contributions: br> In the core mapping services of the EUROLAND component, DLR is engaged in the development and demonstration of a semi-operational approach towards the delineation of urban footprints based on TerraSAR-X (TSX) data. Moreover, the DFD intends to test the capabilities of this technique in terms of analysing urban sprawl.

The objective of the SATChMo CMS component is to supplement wall to wall LULC mapping by a monitoring component on continental area frame samplings and to develop methods for land cover change assessment and seasonal dynamics. DFD is engaged in the development of methods and algorithms for the combination of very high resolution images with multi-seasonal information of high resolution sensors for e.g. agricultural LC and LCC mapping.
