Environmental Stressors and Health Costs

The project "Environmental Stressors and Health Costs", in cooperation with the DLR institute of Aerospace Medicine, investigates the financial and non-financial burdens on human health attributable to environmental stressors, including air pollution and temperature. The research aims to create a unique database covering satellite, in-situ and model data to investigate the dose-response relationship of environmental stressors. We will focus on the district and postal code aggregates in Germany to investigate the population exposure and assess the related health costs.

A contract with the health insurance company AOK-BW (with 4.5 million people insured) and the Federal Statistical Office provides access to health data on hospital admissions and mortality specified by diagnoses. An important project goal is the production of a Policy Summary Report, which summarizes all the essential research findings in a concise and understandable way for decision-makers in business and politics.
