Since 2003 the interdisciplinary earth science project of the “Sino-German Coal Fire Research Initiative” has been supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in China and by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Germany. It focuses on developing innovative methods to detect, analyze, and monitor coal fires in different provinces of the People’s Republic of China.
