Awarding the DLR Senior Scientist title
Dr. Ursula Geßner, a German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) team leader, has been awarded the title of “DLR Senior Scientist”. The official designation bestowed by the DLR executive board took place in the context of the Science BBQ on July 26, 2023 in Oberpfaffenhofen.
Ursula Geßner was honoured for her scientific achievements in the field of remote sensing of agricultural landscapes and ecosystems. In addition to acquiring and leading several national and international projects in the area of agricultural utilization and adaptation to climate change in Europe and Africa, her publication productivity and her supervision of the next generation of scientists were particularly acknowledged.
DLR annually awards the title of “DLR Senior Scientist” to scientists who have distinguished themselves either in the area of basic research or in their applications orientation, especially in the context of projects.
In past 10 years the “DLR Senior Scientist” distinction was conferred on the EOC employees Prof. Dr. Thomas Esch (DFD, 2021), Dr. Uta Heiden (IMF, 2021), Dr. Thomas Popp (DFD, 2020), Nico Adam (IMF, 2017), Rupert Müller (IMF, 2016) and Dr. Diego Loyola (IMF, 2015).
