Artificial intelligence in agriculture – competition launched
Agriculture provides food for people and domestic animals as well as raw materials for industrial processes. To a significant extent it is responsible for economic growth and plays an important role in dealing with the consequences of climate change as well as the greening of our economy. Precise and reliable agricultural data are of great importance for assuring food security and global livelihood.
The intent of the competition ‘AI4EO Enhanced Sentinel 2 Agriculture Challenge’ is to stimulate the use of new methodologies based on artificial intelligence for obtaining the required agricultural information. Participants in the competition are challenged to provide as much and as precise information as possible using only data from the European Copernicus satellite mission Sentinel-2 and AI methods.
Slovenia is the test region for the competition.
The competition will be carried out and financed as part of a European Space Agency (ESA) programme. It was jointly designed by EOC researchers and Munich Technical University (TU München), with the involvement of the Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Unit (Helmholtz AI).
