Mr. Gerhard Thyben, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cali, Colombia, visited DFD on 28 May 2019. He was informed about the possibilities of earth observation to document and understand the transformation of our planets. The BMBF-funded project inform@risk, which has Medellin as its focus region in Colombia, aroused particular interest at DFD.
In this project, techniques are developed to assess exposure and risks, especially of informal settlements, to natural hazards and to make these communities more resilient. Mr. Thyben has shown great interest in expanding these and similar remote sensing applications in cooperation with Colombia.
