DLR-Site in Cologne

German Aerospace Center / Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt (DLR)
Linder Höhe
51147 Cologne, Germany

In Cologne, DLR is active in the research areas of aeronatics, space, transport, energy, digitalisation and security. The backbone of research and development is formed by large-scale test facilities such as wind tunnels, engine and material test benches and a high-flux density solar oven.

In addition to the headquarters of the Institute for Materials Research, the Cologne location is also the headquarters of the DLR Board of Directors and the central administration. The DLR Technology Transfer department forms the interface between research and industry and has its headquarters here, as does DLR's quality and product assurance department.

In addition to the DLR's research and central facilities, the 55-hectare site, which opened in 1959, is also home to the European Space Agency (ESA) Astronaut Center EAC. The most modern wind tunnel in Europe, the European Transonic Wind Tunnel (ETW) and Cologne/Bonn Airport are in the immediate vicinity.

The DLR employs around 1,850 people in Cologne. As a recognized training company, it offers industrial, technical and commercial training as well as school and professional internships. It supervises diploma theses and qualifies scientists through doctorates. The DLR_School_Lab Cologne is an extracurricular learning location where young people experiment independently and gain insights into everyday research life.
