Opportunities for Young Scientists

Which law of physics governs the most powerful machines in the world? How high and how fast does a rocket fly? How strongly is it accelerated? You can find out all this and much more about space and energy at the DLR_School_Lab Lampoldshausen / Stuttgart. The lab offers you the inspiring atmosphere of one of Germany's largest research centers.

At DLR_School_Lab Lampoldshausen / Stuttgart, pupils can carry out exciting experiments, for example on rocket propulsion and combustion research. Topics such as vacuum technology, materials research and optical measurement technology are also on the program here. Under the expert guidance of experienced scientists, the pupils conduct independent research into fundamental and pioneering experiments. The thematic focus of the experiments in the DLR_School_Lab is on space flight and rocket technology. By researching alternative propulsion concepts, the children and young people can find out how the means of transportation of the future must be constructed in order to have as little impact on the environment as possible. The efficient use of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas is also the subject of a number of hands-on experiments.

The DLR_School_Lab Lampoldshausen / Stuttgart is located at the Lampoldshausen site. Here, DLR engineers and scientists work primarily on the development and testing of rocket engines. The students learn about the positive effects this has on our everyday lives on Earth: After all, the Ariane rockets whose engines are tested here transport satellites into space, which are used for environmental research or communication and navigation, for example. New lightweight structures and high-tech materials – developed at the DLR site in Stuttgart – are used in the construction of aircraft and vehicles to increase safety. And because they also save fuel, they help to protect the environment – as do new methods for reducing exhaust gases.
