Safety and Facility Management

In order to guarantee safety at the DLR site in Lampoldshausen and to comply with all applicable laws and the high requirements for plant safety, the site has a Safety and Facility Management department. This department supports all departments and facility operators in implementing the important safety standards. The department's tasks range from crisis management and supplying the site with water and electricity to site maintenance.

The areas of responsibility are:

  • Monitoring of safe test and facility operation,
  • Maintenance and further development of safety and emergency management,
  • Emergency calls (24 hours a day),
  • Preventive and defensive fire protection,
  • First aid, medical first aid and occupational medical care,
  • Occupational safety and health protection,
  • Organization and implementation of emergency and evacuation drills,
  • Site and property security,
  • Management of all monitoring system faults (24 hours a day),
  • Environmental protection,
  • Ensuring an uninterrupted supply of electricity, drinking, process, ultra-pure and waste water, heating/air conditioning/ventilation, compressed air and sanitation.

All of these tasks and services are necessary to ensure that operations run smoothly at the site with all the test and supply facilities, the science and research topics, the contractors and resident companies such as ArianeGroup and Brandschutz.org, as well as the visitors. The DLR site in Lampoldshausen is subject to the Hazardous Incident Ordinance (12th BImSchV) and is classified as an upper-class operating area. As such, it has been reported to the responsible authority, the Stuttgart Regional Council. The DLR Institute has also appointed its own Major Accidents Officer. External authorities such as the Regional Council carry out annual on-site inspections. The last on-site inspection took place at our site on 18.01.2023.

In our standardized safety, quality and environmental management system, technical and organizational measures ensure safe operations. We are certified to DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN EN ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and undergo annual recertification and/or surveillance audits by independent external assessors as part of our continuous improvement process.

We review our internal alarm and emergency response plan annually in emergency drills. The external emergency response plan of the Heilbronn District Office applies to the limitation of off-site emergencies.

In accordance with §§ 8a and 11 of the 12th BImSchV, you can find information on safety measures and the correct behavior for neighbors in the event of incidents on our homepage "The correct behavior in the event of incidents".
