DZSF research project - Supply concept and integration of renewable energies in innovative refuelling and charging infrastructures

As part of the study, the energy requirements for alternative drives in rail passenger transport throughout the German network are to be determined, the necessary refuelling and charging infrastructures characterised and their effects on the power grid investigated.

Furthermore, the aim is to use specific case studies to derive general statements on the potential of direct integration of EEA into the supply infrastructure, i.e. specifically for the recharging of battery-powered multiple units and for the electrolytic supply of hydrogen to fuel cell multiple units.

Project goals

  • Estimating the future energy requirements of vehicles with alternative drive systems
  • Evaluation of energy supply concept
  • Assessment of the potential for direct utilisation of local, renewable energy sources
  • Identification and evaluation of further utilisation potential of the refuelling and charging facilities
