NGC - Adaptive crash structure

The DLR Institute of Vehicle Concepts investigates adaptive crash structures which allow simple adaption of crash properties without the necessity of expensive modifications to the vehicle structure.

For this purpose, innovative crash absorbers are combined with functionally enhanced lightweight structures, such as cast or panel structures. These novel structures are being developed using construction and simulation tools and tested as prototypes on the in-house crash test facility, for example.
