DFD on air at ARD
Some 1.4 million viewers saw yesterday’s presentation by Sven Plöger in the “Wetter vor 8” programme on ARD. The DLR logo was prominently displayed on the screen. DFD cooperates with TV weather host Sven Plöger, who has a degree in meteorology.
DFD makes high-resolution satellite image mosaics available for weather broadcasts, including “Wetter vor 8” on ARD. For this purpose individual scenes collected by the Terra and Aqua satellites are acquired by DFD and immediately processed to yield a seamless mosaic, updated several times a day and made available within a few minutes. The 250 metre resolution mosaic includes all of Europe with scene widths up to 30,000 pixels. This makes it possible to show even small-scale weather phenomena in detail, something that cannot usually be done in traditional weather films. Individual storm cells, surfaces with fresh snowfall and Sahara dust storms can thus all be depicted in the satellite image.
Sven Plöger, who was honoured as “Germany’s best weatherman” in 2010, also presents the weather for the “Tagesthemen” and numerous regional programmes, as well as for “Wetter vor 8”. All of them make use of the DFD mosaics.
Together with Sven Plöger, Claudia Kleinert and Karsten Schwanke comprise the ARD weather team.
