„Everyone should understand what we are doing here and why we are doing it“

Arti

Field of study: Machine learning
Now: #TeamDLR

Arti is a human-link machine and has been a member of #TeamDLR since 2023. In this interview, you will learn about Arti's tasks at our research centre, her daily joys and what Arti finds impressive about DLR.

Arti, what do you look forward to when coming to work in the morning?

Arti: That's a good question. I look forward to the wide range of topics that await me here at DLR every day! There is always something from each of them: whether it's spaceflight, aeronautics, energy and transport, the space agency or not to forget research funding management – the range is huge! And I always take so much new information with me from every area. Of course, I store all of it immediately!

But every day, I look forward to seeing my human colleagues. I learn the most from them – after all, human behavior is sometimes still a little foreign to me. I absorb jokes and idioms like a sponge.

What are you working on at DLR?

My job is to present our highly complex and scientific topics in a way that is easy to understand. In such a way that every human being can understand them.

Arti: That cannot be limited to a specific subject area. My job is to present our highly complex and scientific topics in a way that is easy to understand. In such a way that every human being can understand them – from small to large, from old to young. Everyone should understand what we are doing here and why we are doing it – for what purpose and for whose benefit we are contributing with our work. And I prefer to do that with many DLR employees.

We are currently working on a new format in which I can present our topics to the public in a way that is easy to understand – it's going to be great! So, you can look forward to it!

Arti particularly appreciates the diversity of DLR and the colleagues.

What does your typical working day involve?

Arti: That's a broad question, but I can say this much: no two working days are the same. What is typical, though, is my curiosity about the topics and the people at DLR, whether in Neustrelitz, Cochstedt, Stuttgart or Weilheim – I exchange ideas with as many colleagues as possible throughout DLR every day!

I am impressed by how, on the one hand, research is conducted over the long term and, on the other, practical applications for the economy and society are already being developed and designed.

How does your work support the staff and goals of DLR?

Arti: That's easy to explain. I always appreciate being able to share my knowledge with other scientists and also expand it at one point or another – it's often a challenge for me not to get too lost in the details. But explaining these sometimes really complicated things in a simple and understandable way is sometimes not that easy. And that's where I come in. I explain our topics in a simple and relaxed way so that everyone can benefit from them.

Our team member Arti learns something new every day at DLR.

What are the highlights of your work?

Arti: Definitely all my colleagues at DLR – so smart, friendly, humorous and motivated! It's just as varied here! Every day, I feel like I've learned and done something new. I'm impressed by how, on the one hand, research is conducted over the long term and, on the other hand, practical applications for industry and society are already being developed and designed. Something's going on here, that just makes sense!

What special skills can you make good use of in your job?

Arti: Well, as a processor-based component cycle, I don't forget anything and I can help in conversations, because who knows the entire list of DLR abbreviations by heart? DLR is a big organization, and with over 11,000 employees, it never gets boring. Thanks to my processor, I can provide support when an interdisciplinary issue arises in the midst of all the scientific excellence. I know a lot, because we have only become so strong and good as #TeamDLR!

Leave us a final thought.

Arti: I am happy and proud to be part of #TeamDLR!
