„People are the focus of my research“
FIELD OF STUDY: Psychology | NOW: Institute of Transportation Systems
We research technologies for the intermodal connected and automated transport of the future on road and rail. In interdisciplinary teams we are developing innovative operating concepts and methods in Braunschweig and Berlin. Our goal is to ensure climate-neutral and sustainable mobility in cities and regions.
Research at the Institute of Transportation Systems focuses on the three areas of road, rail and transport system, which are closely interlinked. In the field of road transport, digitalisation and automation for low-emission transport are the focus our scientific activities. The networking of vehicles with the infrastructure opens up new traffic optimisation possibilities and provides technological solutions for the control of automated vehicles and infrastructure systems.
During the development of solutions for the intermodal traffic system, our Institute considers the requirements of both the users and the operators. By analysing the necessary information flows, the scientists support the planning and operation of overall intermodal systems that make it possible to strengthen local public transport and make cities and regions more attractive.
For the railway system, we develop solutions for technological, operational and economic optimisation as well as specific test and implementation strategies. The potentials of digital control and safety technology in combination with technologies for automated trains enable the best possible utilization of the network infrastructure.
For its research, the institute operates a diverse range of large-scale facilities, including the accredited rail laboratory RailSiTe®, the Test Bed Lower Saxony and the MoSAIC laboratory for multi-user simulation.
The institute offers a wide range of attractive job opportunities in both scientific and non-scientific fields. Interdisciplinary work and the training of young scientists are part of the everyday life of the employees in Berlin and Braunschweig. A high proportion of practical work and close contacts with partners from industry and research characterize the work at the Institute of Transportation Systems.
