Test field "Batteries"
The flexibility of the overall system can be significantly increased by using a battery in so-called battery hybrid operation, i.e. the simultaneous provision of energy from the battery and fuel cell system. This makes it possible for the fuel cell system to operate at a high level of efficiency under almost constant conditions and for load peaks to be absorbed by the battery system. With the infrastructure set up, both pure battery operation or pure fuel cell operation as well as any hybridisation can be tested. For the initial set-up, we are using existing commercial Li-ion battery systems from the automotive and building sectors. The measurement technology in this test field records the incoming and outgoing electrical power to and from the battery system.
