ZLP furnaces at DLR Augsburg
The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) Center for Lightweight-Production-Technology (ZLP) in Augsburg has three furnaces for the production of fibre-reinforced components or assemblies. Manufacturing is performed through either vacuum infiltration with duromer resin, or through vacuum consolidation of high-performance thermoplastics.
The ZLP in Augsburg has considerable expertise in producing large components; the large furnace, for instance, has already been successfully used for the infiltration of pressure bulkheads (diameter 4.5 metres) and a rocket booster (diameter 3.5 metres, length six metres).
