Galileo Jupiter spacecraft
NASA launched the large Jupiter spacecraft Galileo with the space shuttle Atlantis in 1989. It reached its destination in December 1995 and carried out the most extensive exploration of the Jupiter system to date until March 2003. On 7 December 1995, an atmospheric probe descended into the atmosphere of the gas planet. The mission ended in 2003.
