Artificial intelligence (AI)
Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most important future technologies for digitalisation. AI already plays a central role in many areas for DLR and related industries. As an enabling technology, the topic also has great innovation potential in research, development and management. Due to its great importance for engineering research and its application in industry and society, DLR is becoming a pioneer in the use of the latest AI processes and methods in its core areas. Wherever new demands are placed on AI to develop the next generation of engineering systems in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security, DLR aims to be the leading expertise provider and innovation driver. DLR is also stepping up its efforts to use the latest AI methods in research management.
DLR will bring its AI methodological expertise for the use and application of the latest data-driven research approaches to a wide range of DLR institutes and facilities in line with demand. Use cases that are important for DLR are to be researched and further developed. These include, for example, automated image recognition, knowledge management and the modelling of complex systems. In the context of embedded AI and robotics, the focus is also on sensor-based AI, on-board AI and embedded AI systems, as well as new approaches and methods for reliable, comprehensible and verifiably safe AI that is capable of operating in real time.
In addition, DLR supports international standardisation in its core areas to enable the application of AI-based technologies in safety-critical systems. As a partner for industry, DLR promotes the transfer of AI-related results to German industry.
