Deutsches Klima-Konsortium

The Deutsches Klima-Konsortium (DKK) represents the leading players of German climate and climate impact research encompassing more than 20 renowned research organisations. The federation is also an important international partner acting as a guidepost, strategic partner, project partner and information broker. Thanks to their success in climate research, German research organisations have made a major contribution to the understanding of global climate change. Germany´s climate researchers contribute as well significantly to the development of adaption and mitigation measures.

ECATS International Association

The high-level aim of ECATS is to help making aviation sustainable and thus foster the European Union’s overall environmental goals for aeronautics. With initial funding from the European Commission, ECATS' role has been from the beginning to create and coordinate the work of a closely-knit network of experts across the continent.

Integrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System for Germany (ITMS)

The ITMS project aims on the development and implementation of a system capable of combining and using atmospheric observations from ground, air, and from space, high spatiotemporal resolution bottom-up flux modelling, and high resolution atmospheric (inverse) modelling for monitoring and documenting GHG sources and sinks.

Modular Earth Submodel System

MESSy is a software framework that combines components, which are numerical representations of our Earth system. Examples of components are atmosphere, land and ocean models, and more. The unique feature of MESSy is a modular structure that facilitates continuous development and flexible model configurations. The concept has been established by a consortium of institutions with leading expertise in Earth System Modelling and the framework is continually further developed.

natESM - National Earth System Modeling Project

Our ambition is to create a world-leading, multiscale, seamless Earth system modelling system, usable in research, operational applications, training, and education. The modelling system considers German expertise, does not exclude international components but avoids dependencies and has a fit-for purpose transparent governance structure.

SESAR Joint Undertaking

The SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking is an institutionalised European partnership between private and public sector partners set up to accelerate through research and innovation the delivery of the Digital European Sky. To do so, it is harnessing, developing and accelerating the take-up of the most cutting-edge technological solutions to manage conventional aircraft, drones, air taxis and vehicles flying at higher altitudes.

The Tropopause Region in a Changing Atmosphere – DFG TRR 301

Projections of climate change rely on an adequate representation of UTLS processes and their feedbacks in climate models. In the Collaborative Research Centre TPChange this will be addressed by a combination of field measurements, laboratory studies, theoretical approaches, and multiscale numerical modelling. Based on an improved understanding of relevant processes at different scales, we will develop parameterisations to improve state-of-the-art climate models. Our goal is to specify the impact of UTLS processes on composition, dynamics and ultimately on future climate and climate variability.
