This Sentinel-2 image captures the Alarcón reservoir in black, along with agricultural lands and forests. The reddish-brown areas at the centre-right of the image have recently burned. The region lies south of the Spanish city of Cuenca, roughly midway between Madrid and Valencia. The image does not show the landscape in visible colours but rather takes advantage of the satellite's ability to ‘see’ in the short-wave infrared range. The Sentinel-2 satellites provide images in 13 spectral bands, spanning the visible and infrared spectrum between wavelengths of 443 and 2190 nanometres. The image was captured on 31 July 2024.
