STAB-Prize for research and development in the field of fluid mechanics
The Strömungsmechanische Arbeitsgemeinschaft STAB in the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Luft- und Raumfahrt - Lilienthal-Oberth e. V. aims to honour outstanding achievements in the field of fluid mechanics every two years by awarding the STAB Prize, thereby also promoting research and development in this field.
The next STAB Prize will be awarded at the next 25th DGLR Symposium in November 2026.
The STAB Prize 2024 was awarded at the 24th DGLR Symposium in Regensburg. The following were honoured as research prize winners Prof. Dr. M. Raffel, Dr. Johannes Brauckmann, Dr. Christian Wolf (all DLR Göttingen), Dr. Christian Willert (DLR Köln) and Luca Giuseppini (Politecnico di Milano) for the development of the "In-Line Particle Image Velocimetry".

The STAB Prize is endowed with 5,000 euros and is presented to the prizewinner at the STAB Symposium.
The STAB Prize can be awarded to scientists and development engineers from Germany. New and pioneering research and development results and contributions to their implementation are honoured, not the life's work of a scientist. Experimental, numerical and theoretical work and its realisation in technical applications are eligible for the award. Individuals or working groups can apply. Applications should be sent in writing to the STAB office (stab[at]DLR.de).
The following are eligible for an application:
- Option 1: One or more publications in international peer-reviewed journals
- Option 2: Significant contributions to the implementation of research and development results in new products, services or processes
Details on the application, the documents to be submitted and the selection procedure can be found in the STAB Prize announcement.
